Essential Objective of Cricket

Transcript:

Let's look at the game of cricket. The game of cricket is played on a pitch which is 22 yards long, and on each side of the pitch are three stumps. There's a middle stump; there's a stump to the right and a stump to the left. And on top of those stumps are two bails.

And the essential objective of the game of cricket is for the bowling side to dislodge the bails and for the batting side to defend the dislodgement of the bails. That's it. That is the essential objective of the game of cricket. Everything else is a consequence of this basic objective of the game.

And there are various formats of the game. Some of the games are played over five days, some of the games are played over one day, some of the games are even shorter, just 20 overs.

But the essential objective of the game of cricket is very simple. Either you are defending the dislodging of the bails, or you are attempting to dislodge the bails. That's it.
