Hand Dryers & Toilet bowls
Transcript:
So, a couple of days ago, someone asked me a question. The devices that are now available in public restrooms, at least in the airports that I have flown through, where they encourage you not to use the paper towels to dry your hands — they have this device where you put your hands in, and it blows a lot of air, and then that's how your hand gets dried. Does that device actually spread more bad stuff? That was the question.
So the answer to that is no. If you have washed your hands properly, if you have washed your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds and rinsed them under the tap, using that device to dry your hand does not spread more bad stuff.
But when I thought about it, there is a device in your house that has the potential to spread really nasty stuff. The dirtiest water in your house is in the toilet bowl. And most people, when they flush the toilet bowl, do not close the lid on it. Always close the lid before you flush. Otherwise, that bad stuff that is in the toilet bowl has the potential to become aerosols and spread all over the restroom in your house.
Always close the lid before you flush.
