Life Imitates Art

Transcript:

So yesterday at dinner, a colleague of mine, Dave Hassey, he pointed out something to me that I had approximately considered but not fully understood. We were talking about TV shows on Netflix, and I asked Dave, "Have you watched Breaking Bad?"

And Breaking Bad is a series where a chemistry professor, using his knowledge of chemistry, comes up with a process to make ultra-pure meth, which is the drug. And that's the story. And the meth that he makes is so refined that it's blue in colour. It's called blue meth. So that's the story. And it's a pretty engaging story. I mean, when I started, I got hooked onto it and I watched the whole seasons, essentially binge-watched it.

But Dave told me he would never watch things like Breaking Bad. And I said, "Why? It's a pretty cool series." Because he said, "Sandeep, life imitates art."

What has happened after *Breaking Bad* is that the drug cartels have now realized that chemistry professors can be hired, and now the meth that is coming into the market is ultra-refined and blue in colour.

Life imitates art. We have to be very careful what kind of art we promote, because life will imitate it.
