In his book, The Blank Slate, Steven Pinker makes an excellent observation. He compares the behavioural differences between chimps and bonobos. These are two species of monkeys.
Chimps are aggressive. Bonobos are peaceful. Chimps have the male as the dominant species. Bonobos have the female as the dominant species. And there are many more differences like these.
What Steven Pinker is saying is that small changes in the genome make a huge difference in the behaviour. The chimps and the bonobos, their genome is different by a fraction of 1%. Tiny, tiny difference.
