SK: What is it? Chandrabhedi, अच्छा। Okay. So it turns out that there are two primary nadis in our system. One of them is the moon nadi, the Chandra nadi, the other is the sun nadi, the Surya nadi. These words, I don't know where they came from, but that's how it is.
So now in the Chandrabhedi, what happens is its circular breathing. So in the normal anulom-vilom or alternate nostril that we learned, it is alternate breathing. You breathe in and out and you alternate. So you breathe in from the left, out from the right, in from the right, out from the left, alternate like this. This is the normal, what you call anulom-vilom or alternate nostril.
Now in Chandrabhedi, you bias it. So you breathe in only from the left, you breathe out only from the right. So it becomes circular. You understand? This is Chandrabhedi. In Suryabhedi you do उलटा। You breathe in from the right and you breathe out from the left. So you are biasing the in and out breath on one of the nostrils.
And there are certain reasons to do that. Most people don't understand. So don't mess with it. You do the alternate nostril. That will auto-balance everything. Don't bias yourself. Only when you're an advanced yogi practitioner, then you can subtly bias. You're not there. Don't kid yourself. We are all in the low level. So do alternate nostrils. Be happy. And if you want to, you can read up, go to a proper yoga school or ask some Sri Sri Yoga teacher. They will facilitate you in this, when to do etc. Don't just experiment with all this stuff.
Participant: Yeah, I think the Chandrabhedi cools down the mind. It's for a cooling effect. Is it so?
SK: It's intended for that. But okay, I'm telling you, don't mess with all this stuff. It is intended for that. Yes, exactly. It's intended to heat and cool and is intended to do many other things. But our system is not supple and subtle enough to gauge. It can go out of control very easily. So best is to balance it. You do alternate nostril, you're not biasing it one way or the other. It will balance if the system is to cool down, it will cool down. If the system is to heat up, it will heat up. You're balancing it. That is why the alternate nostril is the preferred way of doing rather than lopsided balancing it one way versus the other way. You're right; it does heat up and cool down.
