6 Primary Emotions

Transcript:

Hi, it turns out we have six primary emotional states. These are sadness, anger, fear, happiness, disgust, and surprise. And out of these six, sadness, unfortunately, is the one that we tend to just brush away. We tend to replace sadness by something else, usually by anger or by disgust or something. We don't address the sadness as a pure emotion.

I've seen it even in these online sessions when people are saying, "How is everybody? Show me two thumbs up." No, I don't want to show you two thumbs up, dude, because I'm not feeling two thumbs up. I'm feeling like this, or I'm feeling like this. It's perfectly fine. Address the sadness as pure emotion of sadness.

Maharshi Patanjali, in the Yoga Sutras, has given clear instructions on what to do when sadness happens in the mind. He says, "Focus on one principle." This might not make any sense right now. "Focus on one principle"—means what? But you have to understand and learn and read up on the Patanjali Yoga Sutras. But there are clear instructions on how to deal with sadness and bitterness.

That's it for now. Recognize, don't brush away sadness. Face it full on.
