ChatGPT & Bitcoin

Transcript:

So, ChatGPT has an energy problem. So, the University of Sussex just released some information. The first version of ChatGPT that came out, which was like, "You-hoo, we've got artificial intelligence type thing." That version of ChatGPT required as much energy as is needed by a car to drive from the Earth to the Moon and back. That's an insane amount of energy. Not only that, every two years, the functionality of ChatGPT is increasing by 750 times. That is just an insane amount of energy demand.

I don't see how that can be sustainable, especially when the information that ChatGPT provides, the brain can figure out that in 20 watts of power. So, ChatGPT is an extremely inefficient way of getting intelligence. That's why it's called artificial.

Same problem with Bitcoin. In 2023, Bitcoin used 127 terawatt-hours of power per year, which is like 50 million tonnes of CO2 emitted. How is this sustainable? It is just not. And it's a real problem.
