Compassion in Babies!!

Transcript:

So, they did a great experiment to determine when does compassion begin. So they took babies that are 14 months old, and they took another set of babies that are 18 months old, and in front of them, they had two bowls. One of them was with goldfish crackers, and the other one had broccoli. And then they fed the baby each one of them, and across the board, the babies loved the goldfish crackers, and they hated the broccoli.

Then, the researcher would come in front of the baby, and they would eat from either the goldfish bowl or the broccoli bowl. And sometimes, they would make a happy face when they ate the broccoli, and sometimes, they would make a happy face when they ate the goldfish. Sometimes, they would make the sad face also. So they did all kinds of things. And then they would ask the baby to give them one of the two items from the bowls.

And interestingly, the 14-month-old baby always gave the researcher the goldfish—no matter whether the researcher liked it or did not like it—because the baby liked it. The 18-month-old baby, however, gave the researcher what they liked. If the researcher liked the broccoli, they would get the broccoli from the baby. If the researcher liked the goldfish, they would get the goldfish.

Compassion begins at 18 months.
