How Prepared Are We?
Transcript:
So a few days ago, we had violent thunderstorms in our area and they knocked down branches of trees, and along with the branches came down power lines, and we lost power for three days. But when we lost power in the evening, we did not know how long we would be without power, so we roughed it out the first night. We slept with no AC. It was an unreasonably warm night. And in the morning, we reached habitually for the hot water kettle. No hot water because, well, no power. The gas stove wouldn't switch on. Well it's an auto-ignite gas stove, but if there's no power, I have to find the match box to light the gas stove.
In the morning, we decided, alright, we're going to move into a friend's place who had power. So we were lucky. We were lucky that we had a place to go to, but there are many people who are not as lucky as us. So extreme weather is going to be more and more of a normal thing this point forward because of, well, global warming. It's not a joke anymore; it is happening.
No, it's always been happening, but the repercussions are now becoming real. The freezer with all the frozen food, food goes bad. There are many such things. How prepared are we?
