Lunar vs Solar Calendar!! (Repurposed for Leap Day 2024!)

Transcript:

We saw how the lunar calendar and the solar calendar both need some correction. In the solar calendar, an extra day is added to February in the leap year. Every four years, an extra day is added. But it's adding the wrong place. Why? Because February is a month of 28 days. Now, if you ask somebody how much is a month in terms of weeks, they'll say one month is four weeks. Seven days, right? Four multiples of seven is 28. February is the only month that is correct in terms of multiples with weeks. But when we add that extra day to February, completely mess up the math.

But the lunar calendar is smarter. In the lunar calendar, one extra lunar month is added every three years of the solar calendar to align the time periods. But the placement of the lunar month is very thoughtful. That lunar extra month, the Adhikmas, is placed in the period of the year where it is important to give the body rest and the mind rest to recoup. It is placed in the peak months of summer, where rest is important to get over it and rejuvenate the body.

This is the brilliance of the lunar calendar.
