Safer Aircraft
Transcript:
So a few days ago, I was on a flight from Houston back to Philadelphia and I noticed something really cool on the flight. I was upgraded to first class, which was okay, icing on the cake. And as I was sitting, I noticed this card, the safety card, and I noticed the make and model of the aircraft and it made me really happy. Why? Because on the Boeing 737 series aircrafts, we have a membrane device which is on board, which does something very cool.
So, when the airplane is on the ground, the fuel tank is full of fuel. But as the fuel is being consumed on flight, the level of the fuel in the fuel tank reduces. And then if there is air that goes into the allege space or the empty space, you have vapor of the fuel, you have oxygen from the air, and if you have a spark, it can explode.
And what we have on this aircraft is a membrane device that strips out the oxygen from the air and floods the empty space with nitrogen. And now you don't have oxygen. So you remove one of the things from the explosion triangle, no more oxygen, the plane becomes that much safer. It's an excellent, it's a beautiful technology that we invented.
