Standard Conditions!!

Transcript:

Remember this from chemistry: 1 mole of any gas at standard temperature and pressure will occupy 22.414 litres. Remember this—that standard is defined as 1 atmosphere, 0°C. STP means 1 atmosphere, 0°C.

This, however, is only applicable to textbooks. When you go to the industry, this thing that you remembered as standard is actually normal. So, normal conditions means 1 atmosphere, 0°C. Standard conditions can mean whatever they want it to mean, because in the United States, depending on whether you are working in the air separation part or natural gas, standard could mean 1 atmosphere, 60°F or 70°F.

When you go outside the country, outside the United States, standard in Brazil is 1 atmosphere, 15.5°C. In Russia, the standard temperature is 22°C or some such number. It's a mess. So every time somebody says ""standard,"" you have to ask them: define standard.
