Teacher vs Guru (Teacher)

Transcript:

Hi! So yesterday, someone asked me a question: what's the difference between a Teacher and a Guru? So, let's start with the Teacher. A Teacher is one who recognizes the ability of the student and instructs the student to work towards their maximum potential. That's the Teacher.

So, I'll give you an example. One of my good friends, Dinesh Kashikar—he's the director of Sri Sri Yoga in India. And being a yogi, he's totally in shape. Well, because round is also a shape. So, here's the story that Kashi tells. He was going through immigration in some country, and they saw that he was a yoga instructor, and then they looked at him and they said, "Oh, so you can do downward dog?" So

Kashi said, "I can teach it."

That's the difference. A teacher is able to instruct clearly the student so that whatever stuff that the student is doing, they are doing it to their maximum potential. For example, the coach of Roger Federer does not have to hit a backhand better than Roger Federer. He just has to make sure Roger Federer hits the best backhand that he can. My coach in tennis does not want me to hit the backhand as Roger Federer. He wants me to hit my best backhand. This is the importance of the Teacher.
