We talk about Relativity!

Transcript:

Hi, welcome to another episode of "A Little Something About Everything." Yesterday, I was asked a question: "Give me specific examples where general theory of relativity and special theory of relativity affects us in day-to-day life." So I thought about that for a minute. So, here's the answer.

If you want to go from the Earth to the moon, all you need is Newton's laws. F = ma will take you from the Earth to the moon. However, if you want to use GPS, or Global Positioning Satellites, for driving directions on Google Maps or Waze or whatever, for this you need to understand special relativity—time dilation.

The practical implementation of general relativity in our life is the way we fall. When we fall, it's always the head that goes towards the feet. It's never the feet that comes towards the head spontaneously. It's always the head that goes towards the feet. That is how we fall. The reason we fall like this is because of general theory of relativity. It's a little bit complicated to explain here, but that's the answer.

So, these are the practical implementations of how special and general theory of relativity affects us in day-to-day life. That's it for this episode. See you on the next one. Bye.
