Yoga vs Exercise
Transcript:
So what is the difference? Is there any difference between exercising and doing yoga? So there is. In yoga, in a complete asana sequence, there is always a counter posture to every posture. And the universal counter posture is child's pose. So, if you don't remember the counter posture for any of the asanas, do child's pose after that. You'll be okay. In exercise, there is no such requirement of a counter posture. I'll give you an example: one of my friends was training to be a marathon runner, and he would train on a circular track. And he would run long distances in one direction, like clockwise, and then he realized that one half of his body was different than the other half. And he had some physical issues because he did not reverse the direction. So, in exercising, usually, there is no counter posture.
The second important difference is in yoga, there is inversion, which means the head goes below the heart in some of the poses. And the inversion is an extremely powerful benefit. Doing the inversion processes in yoga, there is no such thing in exercises. These two are critically different, which is why yoga or yoga asanas are the preferred way to keep the body healthy.
